More Than a Shoelace, Aluminium Plate Lithography and digital print

More Than a Shoelace is a three-installation series, each presenting a distinct arrangement of U.S. and Mexican passports intertwined with shoelaces. The work examines the deportation process from the United States to Mexico, highlighting how immigration authorities view an ordinary object, a shoelace, as a potential threat and require its removal from every immigrant entering a detention center.

In this installation, the passports are punctured and threaded with a shoelace, symbolizing the connection between these countries amid the ongoing immigration crisis. The composition is set against a photographic backdrop depicting a migrant family crying in the middle of the US-Mexico border after being deported, sourced from publicly available imagery.

Note: I did not take the background picture; I took it from the internet.
